This was my original monster face. I got her in Jan of 2001 from Twitch Chinchillas. MaKenzie wasn't supposed to be staying with me, but I fell hard and just couldn't give her up after having her for three months. She looked at me with those eyes and I fell to pieces. She hated to be held but sometimes would let you pet her for a brief moment. She was very needy and cried when I didn't talk to her enough. If I went out of town for the weekend, she'd turn her nose up at me for the next day or so when I got home. hehe... Guess she was just letting me know she loved me too eh!
Well, one day I noticed that she had started drooling. Of course I brought her right to the vet, with the worst feeling in my gut. I was actually happy when my vet put a cotton swab in her mouth and found blood. She had an abcess, not a tooth problem! I said, hey we can fix this. He put her under and cleaned out the infection and sent us home with meds. I was also handfeeding since I knew it would be hard to eat. Within a week we ended up back at the vet when she started bleeding from the mouth. The abcess had filled with puss again and he had to go in and clean it out again. With time, she started to put on weight and I thought we were in the clear... I was wrong. One day she just was very listless... I knew she wasnt going to make it. She crawled to me and I just cried. If I took my hand off of her, she moved closer to me and would wimper. So I knew she just wanted me to hold her. I finally told her she could go... I begged God just to take her... within seconds, she took her last breath. My sweet girl was gone.
The vet believes the infection had just spread too fast. I spent over $500 at the vet over that month with her, and it still wasn't enough to save her. My heart was broken. I received a lovely boquet of flowers from the vet, in memory of MaKenzie. She is now cremated and living in the chin room, where she belongs.
