Oh my sweet Liberty-Starr. You were my energetic bouncing ball of personality. She did some of the funniest things I'd ever seen! She got very excited at night when she knew she was going to get a treat. I couldn't even walk by the room without her jumping up and running to the door of her cage. She was also my main hopper. When she was out for play time, she hopped all over and she had some loud feet when she hit the floor!

On Oct 23, 2003, she gave birth to two beautiful babies. Everything seemed to go well but little did I know, that would be her last litter. A week later I took her to the vet for a check up to be sure everything was alright. She had a bit of urine on her chest from stimulating the babies, so he gave me some pads to clear that up. Three weeks went by and she started losing weight and the urine stains got worse. We had her shaved so it wouldn't get worse. She also had a high count of fungal spore in her fecal exam, so it proved she had tried to clean herself and it only got her sick. We put her on meds and hoped it would clear soon.

Things didnt go as well as I wanted them to. She lost more weight and started to drool. Her teeth were checked and they were fine. She had an inflamed gum but after some meds that was cured, but she was still drooling. On December first I had to rush her to the clinic as she seemed rigid and wouldnt accept our supplements. They gave her something to boost her sugar level and also some fluids. They kept her all day and fed her every two hours. When we picked her up that night she was doing a lot better and we continued to hand feed her every two hours around the clock.

On that Thursday, we brought her back and she seemed wonderful. Running around and acting fine, even putting on weight. The vet wanted to see her again on Monday.

Monday didn't come soon enough. Sunday night, Dec 7th, she wasn't acting normal. Stretching and rolling in the bottom of the cage. We picked her up and she just lay there in my arms. She was dying and there was nothing I could do to save her. I rushed her to the emergency clinic. They agreed that she wouldnt make it through the night and that her systems were shutting down. I opted to stop her pain. I chose to euthanize her and let her go somewhere where she could run healthy again. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Necro results came in a few days later. She suffered from a ruptered Diaphram. Then that caused part of her liver to move to her chest cavity. Within 6 weeks, this all happened and she showed no obvious signs of it. Usually they show pain and trouble breathing... she showed nothing like that. I couldn't save my sweet baby.

But now we have adorable babies that have her wonderful energetic personality. They dont replace her and no chinchilla ever will. She will forever be remembered and loved.

I Love You My Liberty-Starr! Rest In Peace With The Angels!
